Confirmation is a very significant step in the spiritual growth of Christians in the Anglican Faith. It deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be Disciples of Christ in our churches, families and the communities. The Holy Spirit bestows seven gifts- wisdom, understanding, knowledge, fortitude, counsel, piety and fear of the Lord to us when confirmed into God’s Church.
Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira on Saturday 10th June 2017 confirmed 229 children into God’s Church at St. Mathew Besaniya Church of Uganda Bbira Parish in Nateete Archdeaconry. While preaching to the congregation, he was concerned by parents who bring their children for confirmation without having Bibles and prayer books of their own. He emphasized that children need to be equipped with spiritual weapons like Bibles, prayer and hymn books and encouraged to read them so as to withstand the temptations of the Bible.
The Bishop was also concerned by the rate of moral decay in children which he attributed to parents neglecting their responsibilities of positive and responsible parenting. He however thanked those parents who have done their best to nurture their children in God’s way. On the same function, he prayed and blessed the vehicle Christians bought for their Lay Reader to enable him do God’s work effectively. He was escorted by Mrs. Faith Kityo Luwalira, Nateete Archdeacon Ven. Godfrey B.K Buwembo, Clergy and Lay Readers from different Churches within the Archdeaconry.
