Nateete is one of the Archdeaconries that make up Namirembe Diocese the rest being Luzira, Mengo, Kazo, Entebbe and Lutiiko deanery. The Archdeaconry headquarters at Mackay Memorial is one of the most significant and historical sites in the history of the Church of Uganda since religion started from there before spreading to other parts of Uganda.
This historical Archdeacon officially got a new Archdeacon Ven. Godfrey B.K Buwembo on 7th May 2017 on a function presided over by Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira at Mackay Martyrs Church in Nateete. Ven. Buwembo who doubled as the Parish Priest of Munyonyo and the Diocesan Youth Coordinator was appointed early this year to replace Ven. Canon. Henry Ntulume who retired from active service. He now makes the 6th Archdeacon of Nateete the rest being Rev. Can. Ord.E.B Kibuuka, Rev. Can. George William Mugula, Rev. Can. Nelson Kaweesa, Rev. Can. Silas Musoke and Rev. Can. Henry Ntulume. In his sermon, the Bishop urged Ven. Buwembo to focus mainly on mission and evangelism since it’s the core of the Church ministry. He appealed to him to continue with the unfinished projects on ground, support the already established ones and also to start new ones for the good of God’s Church. While addressing the congregation, Ven. Buwembo was thankful to God for his goodness and also pledged total commitment to spreading the salvation gospel a alongside other developments.
The function was blessed by the attendance of West Buganda Diocese, Bishop Katumba Tamale and the wife, the retired Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese Jackson Matovu, Political leaders, Government and Buganda officials. Over 400 people attended the enthronement.
