Busega Martyrs Day Celebrations
Three youthful martyrs namely Yusufu Lugalama aged 12, Mark Kakumba 16, and Noah Sserwanga 19 were burnt to death on 31st January 1885 under the orders of Kabaka Mwanga. These were the first Ugandan Christian Martyrs that began the prosecution that ended at Namugongo on 3rd June 1886. Its upon that background that Christians from all corners of the Diocese gathered at Uganda Martyrs Church Busega to celebrate the lives of the great young heroes of our Faith.
The commemoration started a week earlier with the door to door preaching of the salvation gospel and drama competitions among the youth from different Parishes. The climax was the colorful service that was presided over by Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira who preached a powerful sermon that challenged many to emulate the martyrs and turn to God.
