Welcome to Namirembe Diocese!
Namirembe is the mother Diocese of the Anglican Church of Uganda. It is a centrally located Diocese and plays an outstanding role in encouraging a holistic church as far as Uganda is concerned.
Founded in 1897, Namirembe has seen a succession of Bishops ranging from missionary bishops of the late 1800s and early 1900s, to indigenous Baganda leaders who have shepherd the Diocese, through blissful and turbulent years of Uganda. Namirembe celebrated 100 years of existence in 1997. Mission work began in Uganda in the 1870s at the request of the then reigning King, Mutesa I.
Namirembe, the hill, has been the cradle for Christianity in Uganda, and beyond. From its inception, the Anglican missionaries established a mission headquarter at Namirembe where they have remained to this day. Today, Namirembe Hill hosts the headquarters and Cathedral of Namirembe
The Launching of the Namirembe Diocese Website has coincided with the
National Jubilee Celebrations. We give all the glory to God and
congratulate fellow Ugandans upon this historic event.
I invite you to embrace and facilitate this God given gift to restore our nation
and lead us into the freedom-giving opportunity provided in the year of
Jubilee.
This is an opportunity to awaken us as the body of Christ and the Nation to
our season of Jubilee. Jubilee is a special season whose significance has
spiritual and social implications.
